CULTURAL HISTORY INTERPRETER
The Cultural History Interpreter plans, develops and implements Outdoor Education programs which increase the public’s awareness of cultural, industrial and natural history and concern for the conservation, preservation and management of historical sites, Cleveland Metroparks reservations, wildlife and plant communities and open space through interpretation and outdoor education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Proposes, plans, develops and implements innovative educational programs emphasizing the historical, cultural, industrial and natural aspects of Cleveland Metroparks in support of the mission of conservation, education and outdoor recreation. This position resides at the CanalWay Center in Cuyahoga Heights.
- Communicates cultural, industrial, natural history and park-related information to the area communities, co-workers, peers and volunteers through personal contact, Internet, telephone, park publications, other written information and the media as requested by utilizing the individual’s strengths/talents.
- Researches, designs, reviews and maintains temporary interpretive exhibits and displays in visitor centers and throughout the Park District.
- Researches, creates, and reviews interpretive materials, including brochures, newsletter articles, signage and materials for the Web as assigned.
- Participates in historical research and special projects throughout Cleveland Metroparks reservation that utilize an individual’s strengths/talents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor degree from an accredited college/university in American History, Cultural History Interpretation, Environmental/Outdoor Education or related field, or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year experience in park work related to interpretation, preferably involving extensive public contact.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the cultural and natural history of the region and awareness of historical and conservation issues.
- Demonstrated ability to write and speak effectively.
- Enjoys interacting with and serving the public.
- Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license.
SALARY: $38,229 - $47,787 Depending on experience

Senior Natural Resources Area Manager - Urban Watersheds
Department of Planning, Design and Natural Resources
The Senior Area Natural Resource Area Manager - Urban Watersheds develops, updates, implements, administers and evaluates comprehensive Natural Resources and Ecosystem Management Plans and Programs for Cleveland Metroparks as integrated with a long-range strategic planning process.
Essential Functions:
- Develops, updates and revises an innovative and comprehensive series of natural resources and ecosystem management plans and programs for assigned reservations using ecosystem and watershed approaches that take into account stressors and other factors occurring beyond park boundaries that impact the long term ecological integrity of Cleveland Metroparks. Develops, coordinates, and implements an annual work program in support of these plans.
- Consults with Natural Resources Staff , Nature Center Managers, and/or Park Reservation Managers to develop, implement and coordinate natural resource programs, with other Park District divisions, departments and community agencies
- Communicates, consults, provides input, trains and coordinate Natural Resources programs including, but not limited to, on-site natural resource training, leadership and technical direction, reservation or district-wide committees and teams; natural resource management or projects with the Division of Outdoor Education and for the general public and special interest groups.
- Collaborates with Natural Resources Staff, Naturalists, and community researchers by providing data, conducting research, and assisting in analysis and writing of studies and scientific papers.
- Develops, coordinates and conducts applied ecological research and monitoring, especially within their area of expertise, to monitor, assess, revise and implement natural resource and ecosystem management plans and programs.
- Prepares reports and scientific papers, organizes observations and studies, and communicates information effectively with the Park District staff and the scientific community and/or the public.
- Using a watershed and/or ecosystem approach, consults, coordinates, participates in land use discussions, facilitates collaboration among community organizations and agencies, and recommends guidelines related to other agencies, contractors, and/or individuals to remove or reduce negative impacts on the natural resources of the Park District, including storm water management, deer management, land development and construction.
- Assists in the implementation of Long-Term Monitoring and Assessment Program by collecting data, training and/or supervising field staff, and/or performing data analysis and report writing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree, Masters preferred, from an accredited college/university in Hydrology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five or more years of progressive work experience in watershed or ecosystem management, including demonstrated project management experience.
- Proficient in the use of computers and software, including statistical software. Proficiency in GIS strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated management skills, including communication (verbal and written), visioning, problem solving and the ability to analyze diverse facts, and develop oncise recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare complex plans and technical reports, and a good working knowledge of statistics as it relates to applied research being conducted by Cleveland Metroparks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead professional and technical staff and team building; prior staff supervisory responsibilities preferred.
- Ohio Pesticide Applicators License (must acquire within one year of employment hire).
- Possess a valid Ohio Drivers License

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
Shawnee Hills Golf Turf
Grounds Maintenance maintains and enhances Park District facilities by performing unskilled and, as capable, semi-skilled jobs in a manner that assures a quality product and program consistent with Park District policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs unskilled and, as capable, semi-skilled work of a routine, repetitive nature in a responsible manner.
- Typical duties include but are not limited to: turf, landscape and plant maintenance functions such as seeding, sodding, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, aerating, spraying, plant installation and harvesting, soil preparation, irrigating, and plant propagation.
- Uses plant pest control such as chemical applications.
- Performs tasks at specialized facility operations and maintenance locations.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
- Works with skilled-level employees (Senior Technician and Technician)
- Works towards the proficiency in the operation and maintenance of the following equipment: trucks, tractors, farm and light construction equipment, front end loader, backhoe, hydraulic mowing equipment, utility vehicles, and small engine equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio driver's license.
- Must possess or obtain within six months an Ohio pesticide applicator license in turf and an Ohio commercial drivers license (CDL).
- Demonstrated ability to perform variable physical requirements of golf course maintenance work.
- Previous experience in and knowledge of golf course maintenance procedures, duties and equipment operation preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to exhibit leadership consistent with teamwork approach that recognizes contribution of all employees.
- Knowledge of the game of golf and maintenance practices preferred.
- Knowledge of floriculture, landscape horticulture, forestry, plant taxonomy, and turf management helpful.
- Demonstrated knowledge in irrigation control and turf grass management.
- Familiarity with small engines and tractors preferred.
- May be scheduled to work weekends and holidays, perform nighttime irrigation and/or required to return to work to irrigate or syringe golf course.
WAGE: Union Scale
