Mill Creek Falls has been a catalyst for progress and change. Around 1799, the Falls powered the first grist mill and saw mills in Northeast Ohio, enabling the early settlement and growth of Newburgh. It wasn't until the Ohio & Erie Canal opened in 1827 that the population of Cleveland outpaced Newburgh. In 1857 this area was the site of the first steel mill in the county.
Mill Creek and amazingly, even its awesome 48-foot waterfall, were diverted and relocated to its present site by 1906 by the Pennsylvania Railroad.
The tower near Lake Erie in Huntington Reservation is
not a lighthouse. It is a water tower John Huntington
built to irrigate his vineyards.
The two refrigerated ice toboggan chute at the Chalet

Squire's Castle in North Chagrin Reservation was only
intended to serve as a gatekeepers lodge. The original
plans called for a large country home to be built behind
the lodge.
