Tiger Woods made a trip to Cleveland and made appearances at two Cleveland Metroparks golf courses in 1994.
The National Minority College Golf Scholarship Fund (NMCGSF) invited Tiger to Cleveland. The NMCGSF was hosting the Minority College Golf Championships at Manakiki and holding their fundraising tournament at Sleepy Hollow. On Sunday, May 15, 1994, Tiger put on a spectacular shot-making exhibition at Manakiki. Tiger's father, Earl was narrating and giving explanations. The public, the coaches, and the players on the team were invited. A whopping 30 people showed up on the dreary rainy morning to watch this young phenomenon.
Cleveland Metroparks golf professionals Tom Kochensparger and Jeff Staker served as hosts. Tom recalls how friendly and polite Tiger was. Tiger (still a high school student) was excited about attending Stanford in the fall.
On Tuesday, May 17, Tiger played Sleepy Hollow jumping from hole to hole trying to play some golf with each group in the tournament. Because of the format he did not record a score. Sleepy Hollow golf professional John Fiander remembers chatting with Tiger. John asked Tiger about the upcoming US Open at Oakmont. Tiger said he could not play in the Open because his dad was making him go to his high school graduation!
The tower near Lake Erie in Huntington Reservation is
not a lighthouse. It is a water tower John Huntington
built to irrigate his vineyards.

Squire's Castle in North Chagrin Reservation was only
intended to serve as a gatekeepers lodge. The original
plans called for a large country home to be built behind
the lodge.
