Institute of the Great Outdoors

Does a weekend backpacking trip sound like fun, but you don't know how to get started? Have you watched someone paddle a canoe, navigate with a compass or fish with a fly rod, and wished you knew how? Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors (IGO) is the focal point of outdoor recreation activities in Cleveland Metroparks. Through the Institute, you can take part in activities that help you develop outdoor skills. And learning a skill is only one of IGO's features. While you are having fun canoeing, backpacking, or fishing, you will also learn about the environment and the need to be responsible stewards of the great outdoors.

IGO programs will be offered quarterly. Each quarter new courses will be available with opportunities for you to enjoy outdoor recreation activities.

Participate with Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors, and meet new friends, learn new skills, and discover the outdoors and yourself.

IGO is piloting a new approach to our programs - you pick the day and the program. We are offering a limited number of our one day programs, such as Introduction to Snowshoeing, outdoor Skills A to Z, and much more. We also welcome custom programming suggestions. if you are involved in an organized group like a scout troop or a community center, you can schedule a variety of custom programs.
