Fight the Frost Festival
Winter doesn’t scare me, I live in Ohio! No matter what the groundhog says, we will fight the frost! Join the CanalWay staff for the first annual ‘Fight the Frost Festival’. Extreme Hiking
Bring out your hiking poles and Yaktrax for this winter morning hike. Prepare for hills and slippery slopes as we trek down to Blue Hen Falls to see if the ice formations have developed. If the trail conditions are too difficult due to weather, we will hike an alternative hike.

Gyotaku: The Art of Fish Printing
Join Naturalist Bethany Majeski for a fun introduction to this traditional Japanese art, which involves making ink prints of various fish. We’ll make a picture to take home, and play a fun fish game.

School of the Wilds: GIS Mapping Diversity *
Join Cleveland Metroparks official mapmaker Stephen Mather for a closer look at how modern maps are made and how they can be utilized to better understand complex and diverse ecosystems.  After an indoor presentation we will put our feet on the ground and see if we can follow the map.

Owls!
What does it mean if you hear an owl? It depends whooo you ask. Some say misfortune is coming your way - others say visitors will be arriving soon. Come learn some owl folklore and then venture out to see if we can find the screech owls known to nest in Garfield Park Reservation. You never know ... maybe we will find other owls along the way. We will need to stand quietly in the cold, so come dressed for the weather!

Coffee at the Feeders *
Winter time is a great time to drink coffee and watch the birds. Which ones stay in our area the entire year and which ones are just visitors? We will sit inside by the windows and watch as the birds visit the feeders. Stop in for a few minutes or stay a while.

Just the Basics - Birds of Prey

Saturday Night Special: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya
Nancy Hughes from Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will take you on a journey to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy - a sanctuary to over 70 species of mammals and 350 species of birds on ~64,000 acres of protected area north of Mt. Kenya in Africa. Lewa works closely with surrounding communities to protect and conserve the wildlife of Kenya.
