The Solar System Walk
... an educational and recreational project created through the cooperative
efforts of Cleveland Metroparks, Cleveland School System, and NASA Lewis
(now Glenn) Research Center.
This walk is designed to give visitors an appreciation for the enormous size
of our Universe. After a brief description of our Solar System and NASA
explorations, the journey through the Solar System begins with a visit to
our closest star, the Sun, and continues by "traveling" to each of the nine
planets -- from Mercury all the way to Pluto -- unlocking some of the
secrets of space.
Signs representing the planets are placed along the trail at their average
distances from the Sun on a scale of 1 foot equaling 1 million miles.
Length of walk: approximately 3/4 mile.
Located at South Mastick Picnic Area off Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, south of Puritas Road/Mastick Road in Fairview Park. For more information, call (440) 734-6660.
