The Emerald Necklace O.W.L.S. (Older Workers Leading Success) is an initiative started in 2005 with a grant from The Cleveland Foundation. This initiative, designed for the inclusion of older adults into Park District volunteer services, includes two volunteer programs dedicated to offer intergenerational opportunities to older adults.
Park Pathways Intern Partnership (PPIP) Mentors Are you a good role model? Do you want to help young students achieve success? Become a PPIP O.W.L.S. Mentor! Mentors work with high school students from Washington Park Horticulture Center through an intern partnership program with Cleveland Metroparks and Cleveland Municipal School District.
During the summer, June through August, mentor volunteers (45 years of age and older) will be paired with a PPIP student and will meet with students bi-weekly for an hour at the students’ Cleveland Metroparks worksite. During this time, mentors will assist students in developing job relationships, addressing job responsibilities and exploring career options. PPIP Mentor volunteers must attend a training class and a background check is required.
For an application or additional information about becoming a PPIP Mentor, contact Heather Triplett, manager of volunteer services, at 216-635-3258 or hat@clevelandmetroparks.com .
Trail Monitors (aka Hike/Bike O.W.L.S.) are volunteers that monitor Park District trails by foot or bike. Trail Monitors monitor from May through October and volunteer in pairs.
